Set up your D2 Survivors game files
You need your own Diablo II or Diablo II: Resurrected installation on a computer. Choose the right folder, compare browser and app setup, and find help if importing stops.
Before you begin
The developer lists two supported sources: Diablo II with Lord of Destruction, patch 1.14, or Diablo II: Resurrected. D2 Survivors does not supply the original files, and neither does this fan site. Use the files from your own installation.
Use a computer. The author’s FAQ currently recommends desktop play; some older setup text mentions hosted files on phones, but the setup screen warns those hosted files are being retired. Do not rely on them for a new installation.
Choose the folder containing the game data
Open the original file setup screen ↗ and choose Use my own files…. Follow the folder picker shown by your browser or the app.
Diablo II with Lord of Destruction
The setup screen asks for the folder containing these MPQ archives. Select their containing folder, rather than a shortcut or just the game’s executable.
d2data.mpqd2char.mpqd2sfx.mpqd2exp.mpqpatch_d2.mpq
The author marks music and speech archives as optional: d2music.mpq, d2xmusic.mpq, d2speech.mpq and d2xtalk.mpq. Their absence alone is not the same as a failed import of the required archives.
Diablo II: Resurrected, including Steam
Select the D2R installation folder. The author’s setup instructions also accept its containing Steam library. Build 20261018.8 specifically reports a fix for Steam folder selection in both the browser and desktop app. See the build summary if Steam files were rejected in an older version.
The MPQ checklist above is for classic Diablo II. Do not use it as a requirement to rename or rearrange a D2R installation.
Choose where you want to play
| Browser | Desktop app |
|---|---|
| Choose your installation in the original game’s setup screen. Extracted resources are stored in that browser. | Get the Windows or Apple silicon Mac app from the developer’s website ↗. Follow its installation-folder prompt. |
| The setup screen estimates about 1.1 GB of browser storage for classic files. Keep enough disk space available and avoid clearing site data. | The author describes the app as supporting offline play after setup, with automatic updates. |
According to the developer, game files are processed locally, not uploaded. This fan site cannot inspect the original game’s files or saves. Moving from this embedded player to the original site or app may use a different storage context; do not assume your progress appears automatically. Read saving and transfers first.
Wait for setup, then start a run
- Leave setup open while files are processed. A folder selection alone does not mean processing has finished.
- When the main menu appears, choose Play and follow character selection.
- Use the beginner guide for your first run, or keep the controls reference in another tab.
- Use Save and exit before leaving a run. For an additional backup, follow the game’s SAVES interface and keep the exported file or code private.
If files will not import
If you see Not a DCC file, a copying error or a stalled setup screen, stop and record the exact error and build number. Follow the file-import checks. Avoid deleting saves or clearing all browser data as a first step.
